Starving, and desperate for money, she reluctantly accepts the Police Division's invitation to enroll in a covert Bounty Hunter program: an initiative devised to infiltrate the criminal underworld of the Fringers, and to force the very worst warrant dodging law-breakers to meet their fate--death.

Unfortunately, Silver doesn't realize that the Police Division is about to up the ante. They need more than little snippets of information and arrests--they need someone to pull the trigger. They need an executioner.

SILVER: Acheron is the first book (a 40,000 word novella) in a 10-book series featuring the character of Ella 'Silver' Cross. Set more than 300 yrs in the future, the Silver Series takes place in a post-apocalyptic, dystopian world where humans are a species on the brink of extinction. No longer at the top of the food chain, humans are preyed upon by the Chimera--genetic mutants that outnumber humankind 25:1.

Keira Michelle Telford was born and raised in the UK. She spent the early part of her childhood in Worcestershire, before the family moved to Wales where she lived for most of her teenage years. In 2006, she moved to Canada. She currently resides in beautiful British Columbia, where she lives with her husband and 9 guinea pigs.

I had no idea what to expect when I started reading this story. I have not read a Dystopian SF in quite a while that kept my complete attention. I was so anxious to find out what was happening that I read this book in one day.

This story begins by following Silver, a hardened Hunter through the routine of taking out the mutated Chimera who eat humans. Living on the edge, Silver is a Commander who leads her troops through the carnage. Finding a woman living among the group of Chimera Silver just slaughters, she knows the woman is not fully human, yet she cannot bring herself to dispose of the woman as the law dictates. Instead, She protects the woman and ends up being stripped of her Hunter title and banished from the life she knew. And from Alex, the man she loves.

This story takes a few twists and turns as Silver fights her way through living among the criminals she helped to banish. She is hired as a bounty hunter to bring in people who have evaded capture. The woman she has been hiding turns out to be more than she expected.

I like how Silver's character is built throughout the story. The author did a great job in showing us a strong character who knows how to kick ass and get what she wants. We also get to see a softer more protective side of her as well.

I am glad to know that this is the first of ten books in this series.  I would have been really disappointed when reaching the ending and finding so many things were left unresolved.

I give the story 4 out of 5 stars. I didn't give it five stars because the last 15% of the book felt as if it was a little rushed to get to the ending and left so many questions unanswered. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next installment so I can find out what happens.
